Migration from Red Hat 9 to Lineox™ Enterprise Linux 3.0
Red Hat, Inc. will no longer offer bug and security fix packages for
Red Hat 9 after support period ends 30. April 2004.
Easiest Upgrade Ever?
One of the easiest ways to upgrade and continue to get updated packages is
migration to Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0, on
which Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 is based, has more than 20% of program
packages which are exactly the same as in Red Hat 9. Also many of the remaining
packages are so similar to Red Hat 9 packages that migration to
Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 is very easy and more close to update rather than
upgrade.
The upgrade instructions can be found on a
separate page. There are also instructions for setting up an apt
repository for Enterprise level support license.
Reliable, timely, and affordable updates for many years to come
Lineox provides updated packages for Lineox™ Enterprise Linux 3.0
with an automated system which offers new packages usually in less than 12 hours
after Red Hat has published security, feature enhancement or bug fix packages
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. Almost all of the packages will only be
compiled, but some few have to be changed slightly due to trademark issues.
Presently the update service is free and when the free
period ends, it costs only 15 € per system with lower volume pricing available.
Red Hat has promised to provide updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 for
5 years starting from general availability (fall 2003), so Lineox can offer
updates for Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 up to year 2008 with the existing automated system.
