About apt repositories
There are many apt repositories around the net you can use to add
software to Lineox Enterprise Linux. But before presenting them, some notes
about compatibility.
Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 DVD-ROM contains
"extras" directories with packages not found in the base distribution.
The directory Lineox/RPMS.extras has 880 packages or about 460MB from
Dag's rpm collection
by Dag Wieers.
All these packages were tested to be installable
to Lineox Enterprise Linux (all dependencies were met) and the programs
they contain are not already in the base distribution.
Lineox Inc. can't of course take any responsibility if you manage
to break something by installing third party packages. Your best garantee
is using apt-get (or Synaptic) to install those packages, because
it checks dependencies, file name conflicts and so on. So actually
there is only a quite small danger of breaking something.
Introduction to Synaptic
Read an excerpt from Lineox Enterprise Linux
Installation Manual. You can also do all the same from command line. Start by reading what
"man apt-get" has to offer.
Apt repositories
Dag's rpm collection
ATrpms. Contains also
a great list of other repositories.
Freshrpms has another
great list of other repositories.
PlanetCCRMA
is a good example of specialist repositories, that you can find in the previous
lists. This one is for those wanting to transform a Red Hat or Red Hat based
Linux distribution system into an audio/video oriented workstation.
These should get you started to the wonderfull world of apt based online
software installation. Also, the apt-get configuration file, /etc/apt/sources.list,
contains many addresses, you just have to remove the comment marks.
